Backup Exec 12.5 LU1805 Error
LU1805: LiveUpdate was unable to find any products to Update. There are no products on this computer that can be updated by LiveUpdate.
All of a sudden, your LiveUpdate doesn’t work. You tried to repair, re-install, remove application, schedule a server reboot, and even called Tech support, the issue doesn’t seem to go away. It is more likely caused by the LiveUpdate coponent itself than Backup Exec. When you inititate LiveUpdate, you will see this:
Here is a quick fix.
- Uninstall LiveUpdate from Add/Remove Porgram. If this is not possible follow this article Removing LiveUpdate after Add/Remove Programs does not work and no other Symantec products are installed.
- Copy (and save elsewhere) or rename the following folder:C:Documents And SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSymantec
- Download LUSETUP.exe (version 3.3) for Symantec Enterprise product.Go to http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/products/lu/lu/files.html
- Perform install with the downloaded version.
- Once completed, fire up your Symantec Backup exec 12.5 and initiate LiveUpdate, you will get the following dialog box similar to the following. Click Yes to accept.

A great help, thanks!!! One note though is that if you are doing this on a Server 2008/Vista machine, you need to rename the following folder C:\ProgramData\Symantec\LiveUpdate instead of C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec.
Hi Anthony, thanks for sharing and glad that helps.

Solution worked perfectly with the additive steps for Server 2008. Thanks a lot.
Hi James, I am glad it helps.
Thanks for the info – worked a treat.
In my case though, there was no need to uninstall the LU software. Just renaming the Symantec\LiveUpdate folder to something else was enough.
Thanks again.
Chad, Thanks for sharing. I will update the article to reflect your fix.
So do you mean by renaming it and restart the services? What else after that?

Here’s everything I did:
After experiencing the problem and finding this post, I was a bit dubious about uninstalling LU as I have other Symantec products on the server (SEP). So all I did was rename the LiveUpdate folder to LiveUpdateOld.
I didn’t stop or restart any services.
I just fired up BE Console and was then prompted with the registering in LU dialog box.
This was on an SBS 2008 box running BE12.5.
Thanks again.
GREAT!!! It did work wonders… It has spared me of layman’s work.
Awesome, glad it helps!
Backup Exec is the worst utility ive ever had the misfortune to use. Ive got an lto4 ultrium tape drive and sbs 2008 64bit.
1) Impossible to get a full successfulbackup no matter how many hot fixes, symantec drivers, setting changes. However, it appears that the full system is backed up eventhough the job never completes.
Spent around 40 hours getting it to this stage.
2) Impossible to restore, we bought 2 identical servers and cannot restore a backup exec taped backup to the second server. Again spent loads of time on this but no solution found as yet.
It just doesnt work and is totally flakey software with bugs all over it. Cannot believe symantec had the audacity to sell this product as theyve wasted weeks of my time, and ruined my reputation with my largest customer who I recommended it to.
Dave,
First off, I am sorry to hear your pain. I been through that as well and I agree to certain extent that the software is ‘quite’ buggy. I manage many clients and use Backup Exec quite a lot, it will fail miserably all of a sudden. Some worked perfectly fine until you perform LiveUpdate and it started to break all backup jobs. I have also contact their support, did all the data collection, traced and even escalated the issue to their so called ‘back line’ support here in the States. We spent countless weeks but to no avail.
I suggest you escalate the issue to their level-2 engineer, they called it the back line team. Let me know how it goes.
Wish you tons of luck.
